Portsmouth, Ohio – Shawnee State women's soccer fell on Wednesday afternoon, losing 3-0 at Mount Vernon Nazarene (Ohio).
The Cougars would score twice in the first half to take control of the match. Alexa Skal would hit a cross across the face of goal to the right side, and Paige Renz would fire past Michaela Garner (SR/Heath, Ohio) after one touch to give MVNU a 1-0 lead in the 33rd minute. The Cougars would score again with nine seconds remaining off a penalty, with Skal firing home to put Mount Vernon up 2-0 at halftime.
Skal would find the back of the net again to start the second half to put the match away. Kaitlin Meade would put a corner kick into the box, and Skal would put the final touch home off a cross from Amberly Knox off the corner. Mount Vernon would control the ball from there and keep SSU away from goal to see out the win.
The loss drops Shawnee State to 2-3-1 on the season. Mount Vernon Nazarene improves to 4-1-2. The Cougars extend their lead in the all-time series to 12-0-0.
Shawnee State women's soccer returns to Portsmouth on Saturday, September 15 when they host Point Park (Pa.) at Shawnee Turf. Kickoff is set for 6:00pm.
