Southfield, Mich. – Shawnee State women's soccer fell on the road on Saturday night, losing to Lawrence Tech (Mich.) 2-0.
The Blue Devils would dominate possession in the first half, outshooting Shawnee State 14-1 in the period. Lawrence Tech finally broke through in the 37th minute, with Lauren Wasniak scoring from Randi Jannette to give LTU a 1-0 lead.
The second goal would come only moments later in the 39th minute. Katelyn Mather would slip past SSU goalkeeper Michaela Garner (SR/Heath, Ohio) to score her second goal of the season, assisted by Wasniak. The second half would follow the same pattern as the first, with Lawrence Tech controlling possession to see out the win.
The loss drops Shawnee State to 1-1-0 on the season. Lawrence Tech improves to 2-0-0. The Blue Devils now control the all-time series, winning the first meeting between the two teams.
"We didn't get the result we wanted today," said SSU head coach Natasha Ademakinwa, "but one thing I can't fault with the girls is their hard battling and work rate. We looked more confident on the ball in the second half and created more chances for ourselves. We just need to bring that urgency from start to finish."
Shawnee State women's soccer continue their road trip to Michigan on Sunday morning when they take on Rochester (Mich.). Kickoff from Rochester Hills is set for 11:00am.
