Tennis has 11 named MSC All-Academic

Portsmouth, Ohio – Shawnee State men's and women's tennis had a combined 11 players named Mid-South Conference All-Academic for the 2017-18 school year.

The SSU women led the way with eight student-athletes named All-Academic for the season. Abby Brinkman (SR/Troy, Ohio), Rebecca Cinfio (JR/Somonauk, Illinois), Mykalley Detty (SR/Washington Court House, Ohio), Michaela Garner (JR/Hebron, Ohio), Adrianna Johnson (SO/Clarksville, Ohio), Jillian Kelly (SO/Germantown, Ohio), Caleigh O'Neal (JR/Greenup, Kentucky) and Kathleen Singer (SR/Minford, Ohio) all earned the award. The eight Bears named All-Academic is a program high since Shawnee State joined the Mid-South Conference, with the previous high being seven in 2016.

Shawnee State's men also had three players named All-Academic for 2017-18. Matthew Bryant (SR/Asheville, Ohio), Rodney Spriggs (JR/Lucasville, Ohio) and Chase Ward (SO/Waverly, Ohio) were all awarded the Mid-South Conference's highest academic honor. The three Bears named All-Academic is also a program high, up from two earned last season in Shawnee State's first year of competition.

To qualify for the award, student-athletes were required to be a sophomore at their institution, and have maintained a cumulative 3.25 GPA in their academic career.

Shawnee State men's and women's tennis kick off the Mid-South Conference tournament on Friday, April 20, with SSU's women taking on Cumberlands (Ky.) at 9:00am, and the men playing Cumberland (Tenn.) at 3:00pm.
