Tennis Gets Complete Sweep Over Alice Lloyd

Prippa Passes, Kentucky – Shawnee State tennis dominates Alice Lloyd College defeating them in both singles and doubles matchups Friday.

SSU's men would lose all two out of three doubles matches. Caspar Nolte and Matt Bryant defeated Brit Bowling and Justin Maggard 8-4, followed by Zach Colley and Nate Hinze who won their doubles match by the same 8-4 score-line versus Daniel Minix and Kaleb Huber.

In singles play the men's team continued to find success winning four out of six matchups. Hinze matched up against Bowling, defeating him 6-3 and 10-8. Zach Colley would face Justin Maggard and emerge victorious 6-0 and 6-3. Nolte followed this performance by defeating Minix 6-1, 6-4. Concluding the victories for the men's team it was Shane Hitchens winning 8-2. With their victories the SSU men's tennis team has doubled their number of victories from 3 in the 2017 season to 6 in 2018.

The women's team would dominate in doubles play, winning all three matchups. The duo of Shelby Hay and Abby Brinkman won 8-3 over Kennedi Dacron and Ruth Ramos. Jessica Willard and her partner Caleigh O'Neal claimed an 8-5 victory over Alice Lloyd's Emily Boursin and Chinenle Ibe. Doubles play concluded with Michaela Garner and Jillian Kelly defeating Rachel McCoy and Morgan Arthur 8-1.

In singles play the women would claim a perfect day, winning every single match. Shelby Hay defeated Kennedi Damon 8-2 before Damon had to exit. Jessica Willard was perfect against Ruth Ramos winning 6-0, 6-0. Abby Brinkman followed that victory with another 6-1, 6-1 against Emily Boursin. Jillian Kelly won 6-0, 6-1 over Rachel McCoy. To conclude the matchups, Michaela Garner triumphed over Kristin McCoy 8-0. This was the first complete sweep by the women's tennis team since 2010, they have equaled their number of wins from the spring season at 3.

The wins move Shawnee State's men to 5-16 on the season, and the women to 3-13.

Shawnee State tennis returns to action on Saturday, April 14th at Portsmouth (Ohio). Both teams return to conference play facing off against the Lindsey Wilson College Blue Raiders.
