Portsmouth, Ohio – Shawnee State men's and women's tennis were in action on Saturday, falling at home to Lindsey Wilson 9-0 in both matches.
On the men's side, Shawnee State lost all three doubles matches. Denis Porcic and Camilo Erazo started the day by beating Casper Nolte (SO/Germantown, Ohio) and Matthew Bryant (SR/Asheville, Ohio) 8-0, followed by Ivan Solans Diaz and Javier Raya defeating CJ Burk (SR/Lucasville, Ohio) and Nate Hinze (FR/Portsmouth, Ohio) 8-0. Zach Colley (SO/Portsmouth, Ohio) and Shane Hitchens (FR/Waverly, Ohio) were able to win games from Edberg Espinoza and Steven Espinoza, but ultimately fell 8-2.
Porcic would open singles by defeating Hinze 6-1, 6-0, followed by Erazo defeating Nolte 6-1, 6-1 to clinch the match for Lindsey Wilson. Shawnee State's best performance in singles was by Matthew Bryant, who fell to Javier Raya in the number five singles match 6-3, 6-1.
Shawnee State's women would be unable to take a single game from Lindsey Wilson in the women's match. The Blue Raiders would sweep all three doubles matches 8-0, with Minja Gligic and Jovana Peric opening the doubles with an 8-0 rout of Abby Brinkman (SR/Troy, Ohio) and Shelby Hay (JR/Louisa, Kentucky). Fiona Curty and Chiara Epifani would defeat Caleigh O'Neal (JR/Greenup, Kentucky) and Jessica Willard (FR/Circleville, Ohio) 8-0 in the number two doubles, and Lucia Mora Diaz and Lina Sachina Ramos defeated Michaela Garner (JR/Hebron, Ohio) and Jillian Kelly (SO/Germantown, Ohio) 8-0 in the third doubles match.
Singles would go similarly for the Blue Raider women. Gligic would sweep Hay 6-0, 6-0 in the one slot, and Percic would defeat Brinkman by the same scores to clinch the match. Shawnee State would not capture a single game in the women's matches.
The losses drops Shawnee State's men to 6-18 on the season, and to 0-6 in the Mid-South Conference. SSU's women drop to 3-17 overall, and 0-6 in the league. Lindsey Wilson's men improve to 12-0 overall and 6-0 in conference play, while the Blue Raider women move to 10-2 and 6-0 in the league.
Shawnee State men's and women's tennis return to action on Monday, April 16 when they play Oakland City University for Senior Day. First serve is set for 12:30pm.
