Tennis suffer sweep to Georgetown

Chillicothe, Ohio – Shawnee State tennis were swept in Mid-South Conference play on Friday afternoon, with both teams falling to Georgetown 9-0 at the Chillicothe Fitness and Racquet Club.

SSU's men would lose all three doubles matches. Ryo Takeda and Tristan Nosek defeated CJ Burk (SR/Lucasville, Ohio) and Nate Hinze (FR/Portsmouth, Ohio) in the number one doubles match 8-0. Casper Nolte (SO/Germantown, Ohio) and Matthew Bryant (SR/Asheville, Ohio) would play the most competitive doubles game in the matchup of number two teams, falling to Cole McCreary and Daniel Orr 8-5. A.J. Berk and Isaac Mathis then won the third doubles match 8-0 over Shane Hitchens (FR/Waverly, Ohio) and Chase Ward (SO/Waverly, Ohio) 8-0.

Takeda would win the number one singles match as well, defeating Nolte 6-2, 6-0. Tristan Nosek would clinch the match for Georgetown, winning 6-1, 6-1 over Nate Hinze. CJ Burk played the most competitive singles match for SSU, falling to Cole McCreary 6-1, 6-2.

Lauren Fazenbaker and Emily Novak would win the first doubles match on the women's side, defeating Shelby Hay (JR/Louisa, Kentucky) and Abby Brinkman (SR/Troy, Ohio) 8-1. Madelyn Kauffman and Abigail Kennedy defeated Jessica Willard (FR/Circleville, Ohio) and Caleigh O'Neal (JR/Greenup, Kentucky) 8-1 in the second match, and Katie Swanson and Kitty Lackey would clinch the doubles sweep with an 8-0 win over Michaela Garner (JR/Hebron, Ohio) and Jillian Kelly (SO/Germantown, Ohio).

Fazenbaker would defeat Hay 6-0, 6-0 in the first singles match. Shae Henry would clinch the match for Georgetown in the afternoon's most competitive singles game, defeating Brinkman 6-1, 6-1. Georgtown would sweep the rest of the singles matches to win 9-0.

The losses drop Shawnee State's men to 4-16 on the season, and the women to 2-13, with both teams falling to 0-4 in the Mid-South Conference. Georgetown's men improve to 5-6, and the women to 8-3 on the season, with both teams improving to 1-0 in the league.

Shawnee State women's tennis return to action on Saturday, March 31 at Denison (Ohio). Both teams are back in action on Saturday, April 7 when they take on Maryville College (Tenn.).
