Women's Soccer races past St. Mary-of-the-Woods 10-0

Portsmouth, Ohio – Shawnee State women's soccer rebounded from Tuesday's defeat, overwhelming St. Mary-of-the-Woods 10-0 on Saturday.

The Bears would dominate the whole 90 minutes, breaking through in the sixth minute. Maddie Woodard (SR/Camden, Ohio) broke through the back line and put a shot on goal that was saved by Corre Matherly, but Alison Cook (JR/Liberty Township, Ohio) would follow up to slot home to give SSU the lead. Woodard would get a goal of her own in the 13th minute to make the lead 2-0.

SSU would continue to attack and see five more goals in the first half. Sydney Payne would score in the 20th minute, with Jenny Campbell (SR/Chillicothe, Ohio) and Maddie Woodard both adding goals in quick succession in the 22nd minute. Charity Collins (SO/Ashland, Kentucky) would put one past Matherly in the 34th minute, and Emily Taylor (FR/West Portsmouth, Ohio) would finish off a pass from Collins into an open net to score in the 43rd minute, giving SSU a 7-0 lead at halftime.

The onslaught would continue in the second half as Shawnee State would score three more times. Maddie Woodard would get her hat trick in the 48th minute, and add a fourth in the 52nd minute. SSU would bundle home their 10th goal through Campbell in the 55th minute. The Bears would see off the Pomeroys for the rest of the afternoon to win the match 10-0.

The win moves Shawnee State's record to 7-2-1 on the year. St. Mary-of-the-Woods falls to 3-5-0.

Shawnee State women's soccer returns to action on Wednesday, October 4 when they host Life University in Mid-South Conference play. Kickoff is set for 6:00pm.
