SSU Women's Soccer defeats Bob Jones University 1-0

Portsmouth, Ohio – Shawnee State Women's soccer defeated the Bruins of Bob Jones University by a score of 1-0 on Saturday in the first match of homecoming day.

The first period of action would hold both teams scoreless as they went into halftime at a 0-0 draw. The Bears best chance at a goal came in the first few minutes of the match as Charity Collins kicked a sharp shot on goal that would be saved by BJU's keeper Kayla Fischer. The Bruins and the Bears were neck and neck with shots in the first half as well, the Bruins with five shots and SSU with four shot attempts.

The second half saw the intensity pick up on both sides yet neither team was able to score as the second half would end 0-0. The Bruins of BJU would dominate the shot category challenging Shawnee State eight times. The Bruins almost took a one-goal lead over the Bears in the 34th minute, as BJU's Mikayla Rajcan would strike in a shot that resulted in an incredible save by SSU keeper Michaela Garner. Garner played a tremendous match at the keeper position accumulating nine saves.

The match would go into overtime and the 1st overtime would see only one wide shot on goal coming from BJU's Lauren Foushee.

In the second overtime of golden goal rules SSU would win the game after a goal by Olivia Ball who was assisted by Charity Collins within two minutes of the second overtime.

After the win, the Bears record improves to 4-1-1 on the season. The Bruins of Bob Jones University fall to 1-5.

The Bears will be back in action on home turf September 19th at 5pm as they take on Cincinnati Christian University.
