Men's Soccer fall to Mount Vernon Nazarene 4-1

Mount Vernon, Ohio – Shawnee State men's soccer fell on the road Saturday afternoon, losing to Mount Vernon Nazarene (Ohio) 4-1.

Bryce Romanello (SO/Lucasville, Ohio) would open the scoring late in the first half, netting Shawnee State's first goal of the season in the 42nd minute. The 1-0 lead was also SSU's first lead of the season. Alek Blevins (FR/South Webster, Ohio) would notch the assist for his first career assist.

The lead was not to last as Mount Vernon Nazarene would attack the Shawnee State goal in the second half. The Cougars would break through with an equalizer in the 57th minute as Gerardo Rivas would head in a Connor Davis corner to make the score 1-1. Two minutes later, Mount Vernon Nazarene would take the lead as Davis would get a goal of his own on a free kick that deflected past Matthew Boreman (FR/Burbank, Ohio) off the SSU wall.

The Cougars would add two more goals late in the second half. Joshua Alexander would finish off of Boreman's hands to make the score 3-1 in the 82nd minute, and in the 88th minute Tim Kasparek would give Davis his second assist by slotting past Boreman at the near post to finish the scoring.

The loss drops Shawnee State's record to 0-2-0 on the season. Mount Vernon Nazarene improves to 1-0-0.

Shawnee State return home on Tuesday, August 29 when they play in the first night game at Shawnee Turf in program history, hosting Asbury (Ky.). Kickoff is set for 8:00pm.
