Portsmouth, Ohio – Shawnee State men's soccer dropped their season opener on Sunday afternoon, falling to Saint Xavier (Ill.) 2-0 at Shawnee Turf.
A fairly even first half would see both teams threaten goal until Saint Xavier finally made a breakthrough in the 18th minute. David Rebollar would latch on to the ball after a scramble in the box and cross for Caden Patten, who would tap in for the Cougar goal.
Patten would also provide Saint Xavier's second goal in the 39th minute. Patten would latch on to a SSU turnover, and after carrying the ball to the top of the box would hit a sublime shot into the top left corner. Shawnee State would pressure in the second half but would leave the chances wanting as Saint Xavier would walk away two goal winners.
The loss drops Shawnee State to 0-1-0 on the new season. Saint Xavier improved to 1-1-0.
Shawnee State men's soccer are back in action on Saturday, August 26 when they hit the road to play at Mount Vernon Nazarene (Ohio). Kickoff in Mount Vernon is set for 2:00pm.
