Baseball falls to Indiana Tech 1-0

Portsmouth, Ohio – Shawnee State baseball were doomed by a first inning unearned run as they fell to Indiana Tech 1-0 in the opening game of the Al Oliver Classic.

Grant VanLiew (SR/Holt, Mich.) would misplay a fly ball in the top of the first inning to allow Dante Biagini to reach second base. Biagini would score on the next pitch as Glen McCain would single to center field to drive him in. The Shawnee State offense would only muster two hits, and could not solve Cody Kellar, who would pitch 6.2 scoreless innings for Indiana Tech.

Derek Moore (SR/Wheelersburg, Ohio) was the highlight of the game for Shawnee State, as the senior from Wheelersburg would throw five and two thirds innings, allowing only the unearned run and striking out 10.

With the loss, Shawnee State falls to 3-13 on the season. Indiana Tech improved to 12-4.

Shawnee State return to action in the Al Oliver Classic when they host Madonna (Mich.) for a doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 12:30pm, pushed back from the original 11:00am start time.
