Baseball falls to Campbellsville 8-2 in series opener

Campbellsville, Ky. – Shawnee State baseball fell on Thursday afternoon, losing to Campbellsville 8-2 in Mid-South Conference play.

The Tigers would take control of the game early, getting to Derek Moore (SR/Wheelersburg, Ohio) for two runs in the first inning and two runs in the second. JT Boggs (JR/South Shore, Ky.) would score on a wild pitch in the top of the fifth to get a run back for Shawnee State, but Campbellsville would blow the game open with two more runs in the bottom of the fifth and sixth. Shawnee State would score their final run in the eighth, when Sam Gerhold (JR/Shelton, Washington) would single home Matt Dvorscak (JR/Whiting, Ind.), but the Bears would not mount a comeback.

Logan Roberts would allow two runs on six hits and strike out six in eight innings to get the win for Campbellsville. Derek Moore would allow six runs on nine hits in five innings to get hit with the loss.

With the loss, Shawnee State falls to 6-20 on the season and are 1-4 in the Mid-South Conference. Campbellsville improve to 17-10 and are 5-1 in the Mid-South.

The win was a milestone victory for Campbellsville head coach Beauford Sanders, who picked up his 1,100 career win as a collegiate head coach.

Shawnee State and Campbellsville will continue their three game series with a doubleheader schedule to begin at 1:00pm on Friday, March 24th.
