Portsmouth, Ohio – Shawnee State women's basketball finished their opening weekend with another win on Saturday afternoon, routing Cincinnati Christian 96-54.
Shawnee State would start the game on an 18-0 run, led by eight points from Lydia Poe (JR/Jackson, Ohio). The Bears would stifle Cincinnati Christian's offense, allowing only five points in the first quarter and leading 24-5 after one. SSU would continue to build the lead in the second quarter, with a Sienna King (FR/Shelby, Ohio) basket putting SSU up 37. The Eagles would cut the lead to 31 at halftime as SSU led 51-20 at the break.
The beginning of the third quarter would see the Bears and Eagles trade baskets, as Shawnee State took the foot off the gas in the second half. SSU would lead 78-39 at the end of the third quarter. Jeff Nickel would put in his subs in the fourth as Shawnee State would see out the 42 point win, winning 96-54.
Lydia Poe led the way for Shawnee State, scoring a career high 24 points and grabbing seven rebounds. Madison Ridout (SR/Jackson, Ohio) added a double-double, scoring 14 points and getting 12 rebounds. Ashton Lovely (JR/Jamestown, Ohio) scored 17, Bailey Cummins (SO/Brooksville, Kentucky) 15 and Hannah Miller (JR/Coal Grove, Ohio) 14 to help the balanced SSU attack.
Kamiylah Bomar had 17 to lead Cincinnati Christian. Saylor Norton added 13 and Bryanna Bransford 12.
The win improves Shawnee State to 2-0 on the year. Cincinnati Christian falls to 0-1. Shawnee State now leads the all-time series with CCU 1-0 after the win.
Shawnee State women's basketball return to action on Saturday, November 4 when they take on West Virginia Tech. Tipoff is set for 6:00pm.
