Williamsburg, Ky. – Shawnee State men's soccer fell in their third straight on Saturday afternoon, losing to Cumberlands (Ky.) 3-1.
The Bears would strike first with less than a minute on the clock, as Mitchell Patchett (FR/Dublin, Ohio) would score 53 seconds into the match to make it 1-0 Shawnee State. The lead would not hold, however as Cumberlands would mount pressure and finally break through in the 26th minute as Aleksa Blagojevich would finish past Matt Boreman to make the score 1-1. Blagojevich would find the back of the net again before halftime, volleying home a ball from Joel Caldwell to give the home side a 2-1 lead at the half.
Cumberlands would continue to attack the Shawnee State goal and would get a third in the 56th minute, as Zach Wallace would score off another Caldwell pass to make the score 3-1. The match would settle into a defensive struggle as Cumberlands would sit back to see out the match, with the Patriots walking away winners over SSU on the day.
The loss drops Shawnee State's record to 2-13-0, and 0-4-0 in the Mid-South Conference. Cumberlands improves to 7-4-3 and 3-1-0 in the conference.
Shawnee State returns to action on Wednesday, October 18 when they host Cumberland (Tenn.). Kickoff is set for 8:00pm.
