Volleyball falls short against Campbellsville

Portsmouth, Ohio – Shawnee State volleyball continued Mid-South Conference play on Thursday evening, losing 3-1 to Campbellsville.

Campbellsville cruised to a 25-15 victory in the first set, but the match would even up in the second and third sets. The two teams would trade points in the second set until a late Campbellsville run gave them a 26-24 win in overtime. Shawnee State would use a long run in the third set to rally to a 25-21 win. Campbellsville would lead for most of the fourth set, and survive a late Bears run to finish out the match 25-20.

Lauren Helbig led the way for Shawnee State with 15 kills. Miranda Clark added 13 kills for the Bears. Deanna Smith had 36 assists, and Madison Knipp led in digs with 28.

Campbellsville's Annija Abolina led the Tigers with 17 kills, with Maria Coelho recording 15. The Tigers had 10 service aces in the match.

With the loss, Shawnee State falls to 3-14, and 0-7 in the Mid-South Conference. Campbellsville improves to 15-6, and 6-1 in the league.

Shawnee State are next in action on Saturday, October 1st when they host Life in a MSC double-header. First serve is set for 12:00pm.
