Women's soccer falls to #16 Cumberland

Lebanon, Tenn. - Shawnee State women's soccer fell in Mid-South Conference action on Saturday afternoon, falling to 16th-ranked Cumberland 2-0.

Cumberland would dominate possession in the first half, outshooting the Bears 9-0. The home side finally broke through in the 32nd minute, when Emily Shires scored off of a Rebecca Holloway cross to make it 1-0.

Shawnee State would have to continue defending in the second half, with the Phoenix controlling the ball. Michaela Garner (SO/Heath, Ohio) would make eight saves in the half, and the Bears would have to scramble the ball off the line multiple times. Cumberland would score again in the 82nd minute, with Shires rolling one into the corner.

With the loss, Shawnee State falls to 0-4-2 on the season, and 0-2 in Mid-South Conference play. Cumberland improve to 6-1-1 and 2-0 in the conference.

The Bears are next in action on Wednesday, September 28th when they host Pikeville in MSC action. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:00pm.
