SSU trio tabbed Mid-South First Team All-Conference

PORTSMOUTH, Ohio (Baseball) – A trio of Shawnee State baseball players have garnered Mid-South Conference awards, as Zachariah Freeman (JR/Richmond, Texas), Conner Wilson (SR/San Diego, Calif.) and Derek Moore (JR/Wheelersburg, Ohio) were each named First Team All-Conference, conference officials announced Wednesday evening.

Freeman grabbed First Team honors at second base following his first season with the Bears after hitting .326 during regular season play. The junior scored a team-high 28 runs, collected 33 hits and drew a team-high 27 walks. Freeman also stole a team-high 29 bases, ranking second in the league and 13th in the NAIA.

Wilson ranked second on the squad with a .337 batting average, grabbing the All-Conference nod at the DH position. The senior led the Bears with four home runs and 32 RBIs while slugging .450 with a team-best 57 hits. Wilson hit a blistering .421 in conference play, best in the Mid-South by more than 20 points.

Moore led the Bears with a 2.09 ERA on the bump en route to a 6-4 record. The junior right-hander pitched a team-high four complete games, including a pair of shutouts. Moore ranked first in the NAIA in walks allowed per nine innings, fourth in total walks allowing, 20th in innings pitched per game and 38th in ERA. He was second in the Mid-South in ERA.

The trio – along with the rest of the Bears – is set to open up the Mid-South Conference Championships on Friday, beginning a best-of-three series with Campbellsville University on Friday. First pitch of Friday's scheduled doubleheader is set for 2 p.m.
