Lindsey Wilson rolls over Bears to conclude regular season

PORTSMOUTH, Ohio (Softball) – Lindsey Wilson limited Shawnee State to just four total hits and one run in two games, as the Blue Raiders knocked off the Bears, 11-1 and 8-0, in a pair of five inning contests on Wednesday afternoon at Boone Coleman Field.

The Bears now ready for the Mid-South Conference Championships, which begin Friday in Bowling Green, Ky. SSU will face off against top-seeded Campbellsville University in the opening round of the double-elimination tournament, with first pitch slated for 11 p.m. CT.

Game One

Lindsey Wilson struck early and often in game one, scoring two runs in the first, five in the third, three in the fourth and one in the fifth to bring the game to an early end. Baily Mize was 2-for-3 with a pair of RBIs and a run scored for the Blue Raiders.

Shawnee State's lone run came in the third inning, when Megan Shupert (FR/West Portsmouth, Ohio) singled to open up the frame, then stole second during the next at-bat. Two batters later – with two outs – Katlyn Gleich (FR/Grove City, Ohio) delivered an RBI single down the left field line.

Miranda Pauley (JR/Portsmouth, Ohio) was saddled with the loss in the contest, allowing eight runs in four innings of work. McKenzie Whittaker (FR/McDermott, Ohio) and Kendale Search (FR/Groveport, Ohio) combined to pitch one frame before Pauley came back on to finish the fifth.

Gleich, Shupert and Morgan McReynolds (SO/Covington, Ohio) each recorded a hit in the contest.

Game Two

In game two, it was a methodical attack offensively for Lindsey Wilson which doomed the Bears. The Blue Raiders scored two in the first, one in the second three in the third and one in each of the fourth and fifth innings to grab the 8-0 win.

The Bears got just one hit in the contest off LWC starter Lyndsey Parden, who finished the complete-game shutout with six strikeouts and two walks. SSU never put more than a single runner aboard and never got past second base.

Morgan Conrad (SO/Circleville, Ohio) went the full five frames for the Bears, allowing eight runs (six earned) on 11 hits and two walks.
