COCOA BEACH, FL (Softball) – Strong pitching performances from Morgan Conrad (SO/Circleville, Ohio) and Miranda Pauley (JR/Portsmouth, Ohio) help the Bears secure back-to-back victories over Penn State Hazelton on Wednesday afternoon at Chain of Lakes Park.
In game one Conrad went the distance, finishing with zero earned runs on three hits and seven strikeouts. Game two featured the duo of Pauley and McKenzie Whittaker (FR/McDermott, Ohio). Pauley went four innings without allowing a hit or a run, while Whittaker put in three strong innings surrendering only one hit.
Game 1
The first three innings of the contest were quiet for both teams. It was a pitcher's duel early in this one and remained deadlocked at zero.
The Bears broke through thanks to a pair of RBIs from Tara Duncan (JR/Lancaster, Ohio), Katlyn Gleich (FR/Grove City, Ohio) finished the game 2-for-3 at the plate. The two runs were all Conrad needed, as she continued to shut down Penn State Hazleton's offense. The Bears came away with a 2-0 victory to start the day.
Game 2
SSU produced runs early in game two, scoring one run in the first inning and another in the second thanks to RBIs from Gleich and Peighton Williams (FR/Portsmouth, Ohio). The two run cushion stood until the final frame when Penn State Hazelton was able to push across a run, but the Bears ended the rally and completed doubleheader sweep, winning 2-1.
In game two, Tara Duncan was 2-for-4 from the plate and scored a crucial run in the tight contest.
The Bears will be back in action Thursday with a three game set. Game one is scheduled to start at 12 p.m. the game will be played at Chain of Lakes Park
