Men's basketball with big night at postseason banquet

FRANKFORT, Ky. (Men's Basketball) – The Shawnee State men's basketball team collected plenty of hardware at the Mid-South Conference awards banquet on Thursday night at the Capital Plaza Hotel in Frankfort.

Devon Carter (SR/Clayton, Ohio) and Nick Tingle (SR/Clayton, Ohio) were each selected MSC All-Second Team following successful seasons on the basketball court. Seth Young (SR/Franklin, Ohio) was earned the Champions of Character award, and head coach Jeff Hamilton earned recognition from his peers at the MSC Coach of the Year.

Carter led the Bears in both points and assists this season, scoring 13.0 points per game to go with 3.29 assists per contest. The Clayton, Ohio native ranked fourth in the NAIA in free throw percentage and 39th in steals per game.

Tingle was second on the Bears, collecting 10.8 points per game, and ranked first on the team in rebounds with 6.93 a game. Also out of Clayton, Ohio, Tingle ranked 41st in the country in blocks per game and 43rd in defensive rebounds per contest.

Young nabbed the Champions of Character Award, which is awarded based on academic and athletic achievement, campus and community leadership, future ambition and demonstration of the five core character values of the NAIA. Young boasts a 3.94 GPA, is a member of the Mid-South Conference All-Academic Team, Academic All-NAIA and a team captain.

Hamilton led the Bears to an 8-8 record in Mid-South Conference play, landing the Bears in a tie for fourth place, the best finish for SSU since joining the Mid-South in 2010.

Shawnee State returns to action Friday night in the Mid-South Conference Championships, taking on Campbellsville University in the quarterfinal round. Tip-off is slated for 8 p.m.
