COCHRAN, Ga. (Baseball) – The Bears opened the season with a double header that featured a strong pitching performance from Derek Moore in the first game, going six innings and only allowing one earned run while the Bears fell by a score of 2-1 at Middle Georgia State College.

The second game of the double header featured more offense, as the Bears combined for five runs, but still fell short in a 9-5 defeat in game two on Friday afternoon at Stucky Field.

In game one of the double header Shawnee State opened up the scoring early adding a run in the first. Middle Georgia State answered tying the game in the second, but from that point on Moore was locked in and proceeded to throw four scoreless innings, before the Bears surrendered the game ending run in the seventh inning.

The second game of the double header featured some offensive firepower from Shawnee State as they tallied five runs. The offense was led by Conner Wilson, Andrew Dito, and Matt Dvorscak, as each contributed an RBI.

Middle Georgia State scored five runs in the fourth, three runs in the fifth and one in the sixth to pull away from the Bears.

The Bears rallied late and tallied three of their five runs in the seventh, as the Bears dropped game two by a score of 9-5.

Wilson finished the second game with an RBI and reached base three times.

The Bears return to action to face the Knights in the final of a three-game set on Saturday at Stucky Field. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
