Pikeville, Ky. - Shawnee State women's basketball picked up their 10th straight victory on Saturday afternoon, defeating #17 Pikeville to start Mid-South Conference play.
Shawnee State would take an early five point lead in the first quarter before Pikeville would take a five point lead of their own. Eventually UPike would lead by one after one quarter, 19-18. Shawnee State would roar back, leading by as many as seven points in the second quarter before ending the half leading 41-40.
Shawnee State would win the third and fourth quarters as well. The Bears would never trail after haltime, leading by as many as seven points before finally closing the game out for a five point victory.
Five players scored in double digits for Shawnee State, led by Jonessa Moore (SR/Cincinnati, Ohio) and Madison Ridout (JR/Jackson, Ohio) who each had 21. Brandie Snow (FR/Hartville, Ohio) scored 12 points and grabbed eight rebounds, Bailey Cummins (FR/Brooksville, Kentucky) had 11, and Ashton Lovely (SO/Jamestown, Ohio) added 10 in her first start of the year.
Pikeville were led by Devin Conley, who scored a game high 25 points.
With the win, Shawnee State improve to 10-0 to continue their best start since 2008-09, and are now 1-0 in the Mid-South Conference. Pikeville fall to 6-3, and 0-1 in the league.
Shawnee State are next in action on Monday, November 28th when they hit the road again to take on Cumberlands in Mid-South Conference action. Tipoff is scheduled for 6:00pm.
