Men's soccer cruises to 3-0 win over UC-Clermont

Portsmouth, Ohio – Shawnee State men's soccer won their third straight match on Sunday, knocking off Cincinnati-Clermont 3-0.

The Bears would grab the lead early, as Bryce Romanello (FR/Lucasville, Ohio) fired home off of a Matt Williams (SO/West Salem, Ohio) corner. The Bears would have numerous opportunities, with 13 shots in the period. SSU's pressure would finally pay off when substitute Skylar Shonkwiler (FR/Fairborn, Ohio) scored from six yards off a cross from Tristan Smith (SR/Rocky River, Ohio), set up by a long ball from Joe Lamont (SR/Edinburgh, Scotland).

The second half would start off well for the Bears as well. Matyas Krivan (SO/Prague, Czech Republic) was put through on goal, but brought down in the box for a penalty. Captain Martyn Sayer (SR/Liverpool, England) would step up and score on the penalty kick. The Bears would survive late pressure from the Cougars to keep the clean sheet.

Martyn Sayer would earn Toro Loco Man of the Match honors for his performance. Including the penalty kick goal, the captain would have 11 shots, with six on goal, and dominated the midfield for most of the game.

With the win, Shawnee State improves to 4-6 on the season. The Bears are now on a three match winning streak.

SSU is next in action on Saturday, October 8th when they travel to Marietta, Georgia to take on Life in Mid-South Conference action. Kickoff is set for 8:00pm.
