Men's Soccer falls to Cumberlands 3-0

Portsmouth, Ohio – Shawnee State men's soccer fell in Mid-South Conference action on Wednesday afternoon, losing 3-0 to University of the Cumberlands.

The first half was fairly even and had few clear-cut chances. The lone goal came in the 16th minute when Ryan Hunley poked home a Jack Cousin cross after Cousin's free kick had hit the wall and bounced back to him. Martyn Sayer (SR/Liverpool, England) had the best chance for Shawnee State in the first half, firing over on a Kazuto Sugawara (SR/Tokyo, Japan) corner.

Cumberlands would hit twice in the second half to seal the win. Cousin would score on the break in the 53rd minute, and would hit again in the 79th minute off a cross from Ryan Hunley. Shawnee State would attack for the remaining 11 minutes but couldn't overcome the Patriots' defense.

With the loss, Shawnee State fall to 5-7, and 2-2 in the Mid-South Conference. Cumberlands improve to 3-8-2 and 1-2-1 in the league. Shawnee State remains in fourth place alone above Georgetown and Cumberlands, who are tied for fifth.

Shawnee State are next in action on Saturday, October 15th when they travel to Kentucky to take on current league leaders Campbellsville. Kickoff is scheduled for 8:00pm.
