Women's basketball set to take on No. 1 Campbellsville

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. (Women's Basketball) – The last time the Shawnee State women's basketball team squared off against a No. 1 ranked opponent, the Bears walked away with a 10-point victory. On Thursday night in Powell Athletic Center, it will be déjà vu all over again.

In fact, not only will Shawnee State – under the tutelage of head coach Jeff Nickel – take on the No. 1 team in the NAIA Division I Coaches' Poll, but it will be the same opponent the Bears faced the last time, as SSU visits top-ranked Campbellsville University with tip-off set for 6 p.m.

When the two squads met in Portsmouth on Nov. 19, the Bears got the best of the Lady Tigers, as all five SSU starters landed in double figures scoring, led by Ali Zieverink (SR/West Chester, Ohio)s 18 and Jen Arnzen (JR/Portsmouth, Ohio)'s 11 points and career-high 16 rebounds.

At that time, Shawnee State was ranked at No. 16 in the nation. In the two months since, the Bears have vaulted to No. 5 in the NAIA, its highest ranking since entering the 2012 season ranked second, riding an 18-2 record, including a perfect 6-0 mark in Mid-South Conference play.

The Bears are led by reigning Mid-South Conference Player of the Year and NAIA Honorable Mention All-American Ali Zieverink. This season, the West Chester, Ohio native ranks first in the NAIA with 23.45 points per game. Her running mate is fellow senior Abby Feuchter (SR/Cincinnati, Ohio). She currently ranks second in the country at 6.25 assist per contest.

Shawnee State will conclude its week with a Saturday date versus St. Catharine College, slated for a 2 p.m. tip-off.
