Chapman, Dittoe named Mid-South All-Conference

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (Softball) – Shawnee State softball players Allie Chapman (SR/Chesapeake, Ohio) and Hannah Dittoe (JR/Pickerington, Ohio) each grabbed a bit of hardware at the Mid-South Conference softball awards banquet last night, as Chapman was named First Team All-Conference and Dittoe garnered Second-Team honors.

Also at the banquet, four SSU players were named to the Academic All-Mid-South squad, awarded to all student-athletes of at least sophomore academic status, who earn a 3.25 GPA or higher. Chapman, Kelsey Jenkins (SR/Wheelersburg, Ohio), Miranda Melvin (SO/Oak Hill, Ohio) and Miranda Pauley (SO/Portsmouth, Ohio) each received this recognition.

Despite a 6-12 record, Chapman was the clear ace of the Shawnee State pitching staff, logging a team high 106.1 innings of work in 20 appearances this season. She pitched a team-high 15 complete games and recorded four shutouts. The senior notched 75 strikeouts while walking just 21.

Dittoe was the offensive juggernaut for the Bears, collecting a team-high 22 RBIs and four home runs. The junior led the team with a .390 batting average and a .610 slugging percentage. She scored 20 times, had nine doubles and collected 41 hits on the season, all team highs.

On the academic side, Pauley notched the highest GPA on the squad. The education major from Portsmouth recorded a 3.82. Melvin, a biology major from Oak Hill, Ohio, came in next with a 3.64.

The pair of seniors on the SSU squad rounded out the academic awards. Chapman, an athletic training major from Chesapeake, Ohio, notched a 3.62 grade point average, and Jenkins, a Wheelersburg, Ohio, native and nursing major, landed a 3.48 GPA.

The Bears are back in action at the Mid-South Conference Tournament on Thursday, opening the double-elimination championship event against top-seeded Campbellsville University. The Bears and Lady Tigers are set to square off at 1 p.m. ET.
