BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (Baseball) – Blake Maines (SO/Burlington, Ky.) and Mason Wisner (SR/Bay Village, Ohio) each garnered awards at the Mid-South Conference baseball awards banquet earlier this week. Maines brought home First Team All-Conference and Gold Glove hardware, while Wisner was named Second Team All-Conference.
Four others – Drew Haislop (SO/Oak Hill, Ohio), Brandon Reaman (JR/Dayton, Ohio), Andrew Vanthournout (FR/Bowling Green, Ky.) and Jacob Waters (JR/DeWitt, Mich.) – were named to the Academic All-Conference Team at the awards banquet.
Maines played in 39 games this season, starting 38, with a .341 batting average. The sophomore scored a team-high 21 times, collected 42 hits, 12 doubles, a home run and 11 RBIs. His .480 slugging percentage was second-best on the club. Maines also recorded a .956 fielding percentage at third base, committing just four errors on the season.
Wisner was tops on the team with a .375 batting average and .587 slugging percentage in 35 games this season. He led the team with four homers and added six doubles and a team-high two triples. One of just two seniors on the team, Wisner scored 16 runs and collected 24 RBIs.
Vanthournout, a Bowling Green, Ky., native, recorded the highest GPA on the squad with a 3.8. Haislop, of Oak Hill, Ohio, came in next with a 3.64. Dayton, Ohio, native Brandon Reaman added a 3.5 grade point average, and Waters, a DeWitt, Mich., native added a 3.25.
All-Academic awards were given to any student-athlete of at least sophomore academic status who earned a GPA of at least 3.25.
On the field, the Shawnee State baseball team upset second-seeded St. Catharine College on Wednesday in the opening round of the Mid-South Conference Tournament. The Bears will face off against Lindsey Wilson College on Thursday at 7 p.m. ET.
