Circleville, Ohio (Softball) – Shawnee State broke a 17-game losing streak on Monday after defeating Ohio Christian University in both games. Shawnee claimed the second victory in extra innings at the OCU Softball Field.
Allie Chapman (SR/Chesapeake, Ohio) pitched in the first game of the day for SSU. She earned the win after allowing just four hits and no walks with four strikeouts in her shutout performance. Taylor Moore got the loss for OCU.
The Bears hit well in the first game, scoring more than four runs for the first time in 17 contests. Kelsey Jenkins (SR/Wheelersburg, Ohio), Hannah Dittoe (JR/Pickerington, Ohio), and Andrea Kleinman (FR/South Point, Ohio) all had multiple hits in the game, with six different Bears getting RBIs. They would win the game 8-0.
Game two was far more dramatic, as it took extra innings for the Bears to get the victory. SSU got off to a rough start after allowing six runs in the second inning.
Shawnee would climb back and tie the game in the seventh, forcing the extra inning. Ohio Christian had eight errors on the game, allowing SSU to score six to tie the game at seven. The Bears managed to score two runs in the 8th, giving them the 9-7 victory.
Alex Bowers (FR/New London, Ohio) entered the game and earned the win, pitching 6.1 innings and allowing just three hits. She let up one earned run on the day and three strikeouts. Leandra Griffin pitched seven innings for OCU and allowed four earned runs, giving her the loss.
The Bears are back in action Friday, April 17 for a double header. They will host St. Catharine College, with the first game scheduled to start at 3 p.m.
