Zieverink named Mid-South Conference Player of the Year

FRANKFORT, Ky. (Women's Basketball) – Shawnee State women's basketball player Ali Zieverink (JR/West Chester, Ohio) has been named the Mid-South Conference Player of the Year, announced Wednesday night at the conference's awards banquet. Zieverink was also named First Team All-Conference, along with Tabby McKinney (SR/Canton, Ohio). Shavon Robinson (SR/Canton, Ohio) earned a second team nod.

Zieverink finished the season first in the conference in scoring, averaging 20.5 points per game. Her 616 total points was more than 100 scored by anyone else in the league. She was also first in field goal percentage, and fifth in rebounds per contest, at 7.1. She accrued a pair of Player of the Week honors and scored 30-plus points on two occasions.

McKinney earns first team honors after ranking third in the conference in rebounds per game (7.37) and second in the league in steals per game (2.1). She finished with 221 boards in 30 appearances, while scoring a career-best 8.6 points per game. McKinney was named MSC Player of the Week on Nov. 17.

Despite playing in just 16 games, joining the squad around the semester break, Robinson was chosen as Second Team All-Mid-South after averaging 11.56 points per game. She added 5.4 boards per contest, while scoring in double-figures on eight occasions. Robinson also garnered Player of the Week honors on Jan. 5.

Shawnee State begins action in the Mid-South Conference Tournament on Thursday night at 8 p.m. versus Georgetown College. The Bears represent the No. 3 seed in the tournament.
