Men's basketball never leads in 75-56 loss at Campbellsville

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. (Men's Basketball) – The Shawnee State men's basketball team saw an 11-point halftime deficit balloon to more than 20 in the second half, as the Bears were resigned to just 40 percent shooting in a 75-56 losing effort versus No. 9 Campbellsville on Thursday night at the Powell Athletic Center.

Sean Elliott (JR/Canal Winchester, Ohio) led the way with 19 points on 7-of-13 shooting, and Jacob Daniels (SO/Peebles, Ohio) hit 4-of-5 attempts for nine points to go with five rebounds. Jorian Hudson (JR/Cincinnati, Ohio) added nine points, but connected on just 3-of-11 from the field. Nick Tingle (JR/Clayton, Ohio) added eight points and five boards.

The Mid-South Conference's fifth-leading scorer, D'Von Campbell scored a gam-high 29 points on 9-of-14 shooting, including an 8-of-11 performance from three-point land. Damontre Harris added 12 points and 15 rebounds for the Tigers.

SSU saw the contest tied three times, first at 2-2 – then later at 12-12 and 14-14 – but never enjoyed a lead, as CU used a 10-0 run following the final tie to take the lead for good, 24-14, with 10:29 in the first half.

Tingle brought the contest back to its closes point at four points with a bucket with 6:46 to play in the first, but the Tigers' Rob Robinson connected from three with 3:32 on the clock to extend the advantage back to 11. That would mark the final score by either team in the half, sending the game to the locker room at 37-26.

In the second half, SSU could never cut the advantage below 10, as Campbellsville pushed the lead to 20 at the midway point in the half. From there, the Tigers were able to hit cruise control, as the advantage remained near the 20-point mark for the rest f the contest.

Campbellsville landed just two players in double-figures, but controlled the rebounding battle, 38-26. The Tigers hit 10 more triples than the Bears in the game, and connected on 27-of-54 attempts from the field.

Shawnee State returns to action Saturday afternoon at St. Catharine College to bring the regular season to a close. The Bears will then begin preparation for the Mid-South Conference Tournament, which will begin with the No. 8 vs. No. 9 play-in game at noon on Thursday. Saturday's tip-off is slated for 4 p.m.
