WILMORE, Ky. (Women's Basketball) – Lydia Poe (FR/Jackson, Ohio) tallied career-highs in both points and rebound – notching 22 and 13, respectively – en route to her first career double-double, as the Shawnee State women's basketball team rolled over Miami-Middletown, 94-50, Friday afternoon on the opening day of the Zweifel/Pritchett Classic.
Poe paired her 22 points with 29 from Ali Zieverink (SR/West Chester, Ohio) – her fifth-straight contest with 20-plus points – who connected on 13-of-16 attempts in just under 25 minutes. Combined, the duo finished 23-of-31 from the field.
Madison Ridout (SO/Jackson, Ohio) followed up her career-high in scoring in a victory over the University of Rio Grande with a 17-point performance, including three buckets from behind the arc, paired with 10 assists, marking the first double-double of her career, as well.
The Bears (9-2) never trailed in the contest, as back-to-back triples from Ridout kicked things off in the opening minutes. SSU was able to maintain control throughout the first period, leading to a 14-point advantage – capped by a third triple from the sophomore guard.
Shawnee State continued to push forward, extending the lead to as many as 27 in the first half, culminating in a halftime lead of 54-29.
SSU led by 33 at the end of the third period, and never saw the lead dip below 30 in the final quarter, coasting to the 44-point win.
The Bears were content to pound the ball into the paint for nearly the entirety of the contest, connecting on 54 percent of their shots on 24-of-63 shooting. The squad also dominated the rebounding battle, 53-29.
SSU was also true on 19-of-23 free throws, including an 11-for-11 mark in the first half, while hitting 7-of-21 from three point range.
The Bears are back in action Saturday at the Zweifel/Pritchett Classic, facing off against Indiana University-Northwest. Tip-off is slated for 12 p.m.
