PORTSMOUTH, Ohio (Men's and Women's Basketball) – For the first time in the 2015 calendar year, the Shawnee State men's and women's basketball teams will do battle inside the ever-strong Mid-South Conference, as each squad takes on a nationally-ranked Georgetown College squad Thursday night at Frank & Janis Waller Gymnasium.
The No. 14 women's squad – fresh off their highest NAIA Top 25 ranking in two years – will tip-off first against the No. 24-ranked Tigers at 6 p.m. In their last meeting on Feb. 1, 2014, SSU defeated the then-No. 6 Tigers, 70-63, in Portsmouth. SSU holds an 11-8 advantage over Georgetown all-time, including a 6-1 mark in Portsmouth.
On the men's side, SSU looks to grab their first victory in conference play this season versus a GC squad which is ranked No. 18 in the country, with the contest beginning at 8 p.m. The Bears fell last season, 83-79, in an overtime thriller. The Bears are 4-10 all-time versus the Tigers, but boast a 4-3 mark in Portsmouth.
