COLUMBIA, Ky. (Women's Soccer) – For the second time in as many games, the Shawnee State women's soccer team was charged with the herculean task of facing a nationally-ranked top-10 opponent.
A different day yielded a similar result as the Bears dropped a second-straight Mid-South Conference match, 10-0, this time at the hands of sixth-ranked Lindsey Wilson College on Tuesday night at Walter S. Reuling Stadium.
Lindsey Wilson jumped on the scoreboard early and often in the contest, needing just 3:41 to produce the first goal of the match. Bettina Brulhart scored the first of three goals on the evening in the fourth minute to make it 1-0.
The Blue Raiders struck again just over a minute later, as Amanda Kander netted the first of a trifecta of goals for the freshman. Kander would score again in the 13th minute to make it 3-0 in favor of the home team.
It was Brulhart who pushed the gap even further away with back-to-back goals in the 14th and 40th minutes, respectively. Ayaki Shinada added a goal for good measure in the 43rd minute to send SSU to the locker room trailing 6-0.
The Bears recorded just one shot in the opening half, one on target from freshman Maddie Woodard (FR/Camden, Ohio). Schuyler Jones (JR/Ramnicu Valcea, Romania) would add the only other two shots of the game in the second half, though both were on goal, as well.
The Blue Raiders continued the offensive onslaught in the second half, as Lyana Perez recorded her first of three scores in the 49th minute. Perez added another score in the 54th minute.
Kander completed her hat trick with a score in the 78th minute, and Perez concluded the scoring with a goal in the 79th to bring the score to its eventual final, at 10-0.
Shawnee State used three keepers in the net during the game, as Natasha Wilson recorded her first minutes in goal during the final 11 minutes. Rachael Sexton and Mollie King (JR/West Jefferson, Ohio) each spent time between the pipes as well.
Following a pair of difficult conference opponents, Shawnee State exits the Mid-South Conference for a road battle against Cincinnati Christian on Friday. The weekend matchup is slated for 8 p.m.
