Sherman's header leads Bears to 1-1 draw with Indiana Tech

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Men's Soccer) – The Shawnee State took a 1-0 advantage on a header from Connor Sherman in the 39th minute, but the Warriors responded less than two minutes later with an goal of their own to push the contest on Saturday to a 1-1 draw.

Sherman's header came from a cross from Avery Patton which the junior redirected into the back of the net for his first score of the season.

Following a pair of goals over a two minute span, the Bears and Warriors would go scoreless for more than 75 minutes, through the second half and a pair of overtime periods.

The match was not without its share of drama as the hard-fought contest led to seven cautions and a double-yellow red card. SSU's Joseph Webster was the recipient, receiving his second yellow in the 111th minute.

SSU was out matched during much of the first frame, as Indiana Tech posted 13 shots in the first 45 minutes compared to just two from the Bears.

Shawnee State closed that gap significantly in the second period, allowing six shots to its five. The Bears out-shot Indiana Tech 3-1 during overtime.

Though unable to get one past the keeper, Patton led the way for the Bears, taking five shots, four of them on frame. In total, the Bears put nine of 10 shots on goal in the contest.

The Bears will remain in Fort Wayne, Ind., on Sunday for a contest against the University of Saint Francis. The match is set to begin a 1 p.m.
