BLUEFIELD, Va. – Women's tennis dropped a tough 8-1 match at Bluefield. The Bears were able to win at least six games in each of the singles slots and lost a tiebreak match in doubles along with another 8-6 defeat.

Brianna Boggs (FR/Wheelersburg, Ohio) was the lone victor for Shawnee State on the day as she won her match at No. 4 by a 6-2, 6-4 score. The Bears toughest defeat of singles came at No. 2 where Shelbie Wulfekamp (JR/Maysville, Ky.) lost in three sets. After a convincing 6-1 win in the opening set, Wulfekamp also had a substantial lead in the second set before her opponent rallied back to take the middle set and did not allow a game in the third.

In the No. 1, No. 3, No. 5, No. 6 singles slots, the Bears won at least six games over the two set losses. Kyra Keeton (SR/Raceland, Ky.) suffered the closest of those defeats, falling in consecutive 6-4 sets. Keeton and Karley Stites (FR/South Vienna, Ohio) were also dealt a tough loss at No. 2 singles as they fell in a tiebreak, 10-8. That came after splitting the first 16 games of their doubles match.

Shawnee State returns home on Monday April 21 to wrap up the regular season against Cumberland University and Georgetown College.
