Men's Basketball Drops Season Finale to Lindsey Wilson, 75-71

COLUMBIA, Ky. – Men's basketball dropped the final game of its season on the road to Lindsey Wilson, 75-71, on Saturday evening. The Bears (9-20, 3-15 MSC) did not trail from the 14:54 mark of the opening half until there was 2:56 left in the game but the Blue Raiders (16-14, 7-11 MSC) held a 15-7 advantage in scoring over the final four minutes to pull out the victory. The Bears won the meeting between the two schools back in Portsmouth in late November to split the season series.

Trevor Banks (SR, Fort Pierce, Fla.) led the Bears with 18 points in his final collegiate contest. Mark Bryant (SR, Milford, Ohio) also finished in double figures with 10 points in his final collegiate game. Andrew Devlin (SR, Columbus, Ohio) and Kyle Duncan (SR, Dublin, Ohio) were also playing their final games in their Shawnee State careers. Devlin finished with four points and five rebounds, while Duncan scored eight points in his start. Ethan Moffatt (SO, Somerville, Tenn.) also scored in double figures for the Bears with 11 points on the day. Lindsey Wilson was led by Daronte' Clark as she scored 30 points in the contest.

Moffatt hit a 3-pointer with 14:54 to put the Bears on top for the rest of the opening half. The Blue Raiders tied the game at 11 but an 8-0 run from the Bears put them up 19-11 with just over 11 minutes to play. A 3-pointer from Bryant gave the Bears their largest lead of the game at 22-13 with just under 10 minutes to play. The Blue Raiders never tied the game again in the opening half, but SSU led just 34-33 at the half.

Lindsey Wilson tied the game on one occasion early on in the second half. However, the Blue Raiders still could not manage to pull ahead at the time. Shawnee State led by as many as eight points in the second half, 55-47 with 8:40 to play.

The Blue Raiders finally pulled ahead after a 3-pointer from D'on Hall with 2:56 on the clock. This broke a stretch of 31:58 of playing time where SSU had either held the lead or were at least even with the hosts.

Moffatt hit a pair of free throws to knot the game at 66 with 2:40 to play but Shawnee State would never retake the lead. Banks hit a 3-pointer with 1:16 left in the game to pull his team within a single point, but LWC answered with a 3-pointer of their own to go up by four. Nick Gouch (SO, Columbus, Ohio) added the final two points for the Bears but a final basketball from Clark put the Bears down by four points with five seconds to go before the buzzer sounded on the Bears season.

Men's basketball finishes the 2013-14 season in 10th place in the Mid-South Conference. The top eight teams from the regular season will all head to Cumberland University next Thursday for the beginning of the conference tournament.
