Jones nets hat trick in 5-0 win over Ohio Christian

PORTSMOUTH, OHIO (Women's Soccer) – Schuyler Jones (JR/Ramnicu Valcea, Romania) scored the first goal of the game and the last – notching one more in between – as the Shawnee State women's soccer team scored four goals in the second half to cruise to a 5-0 victory over Ohio Christian University on Saturday at Shawnee Turf.

Jones notched her first score of the contest in the 31st minute, as Brooke Uhrig (SO/Chillicothe, Ohio) played a long ball from the left side to the penalty spot. Jones found nothing but open space, making a pair of touches before finishing for the goal.

The Bears sat on a 1-0 lead for nearly 25 minutes, heading to the break with the one-goal advantage before scoring in the 55th minute. The second goal game from Jones as well, when Maddie Woodard (FR/Camden, Ohio) played a high cross to the right side which found the head of the junior and gave the Bears a 2-0 lead.

Jenny Campbell (FR/Chillicothe, Ohio) added her ninth goal of the season on a beauty of a shot in the 64th minute. The freshman dribbled to just inside the 18-yard box – taking on a defender the whole way – before sending a bullet on target with her left foot.

Less than a minute later, Woodard got in on the scoring action with a goal of her own. The assist came from Campbell who played a ball down the left side. Woodard gathered the ball before finishing at the back post for the score.

Jones' final score came with just over a minute to play when Natasha Wilson sent a spectacular corner kick to the back post. Jones was in position and again finished with her head.

Mollie King (JR/West Jefferson, Ohio) pitched a shutout in goal for the bears, moving to 4-2 on the season in goal. The junior recorded three saves in the match.

Shawnee State collected 23 shots in the game, putting 10 on target, while Ohio Christian managed just six with three on goal.

The Bears are back in action one week from Saturday with a Mid-South Conference matchup at Campbellsville University. The game marks the first conference game for SSU since Oct 2, a 2-1 victory over Georgetown College.
