MONACA, Pa. – Women's soccer continued its winning ways Wednesday afternoon at Penn State Beaver as the Bears extended their winning streak to seven games with a 7-0 victory. The Bears just simply dominated as they did not allow a shot to Beaver over the course of the entire game.
Allison Nagle recorded her second hat trick of the season in the victory while Teresa Welch, Jessica Fair, Schuyler Jones, and Tasha Wilson each added a single tally in the win. Jones also added two assists in the win to finish with four points while Fair and Wilson each added a single assist for a three-point performance. Bethany Ward and Elizabeth Abbott also recorded helpers in the victory.
Right out of the gate, Nagle got the Bears on the scoreboard with a goal just 56 seconds into the game. The Bears would then quickly jump to the 2-0 lead on a corner kick as Welch headed home her first goal of the season off the corner from Wilson. The Bears would then take a 3-0 lead just 10:05 into play as Fair tallied off the assist from Ward tallied her first goal of the season.
After a quick goal to start the opening half, Nagle found the back of the net just 1:20 into the second half off a feed from Fair. Jones would then get into the scoring act with her first of the year in 52nd minute of play as she scored unassisted.
Nagle would get her hat trick in the 78th minute off the assist from Jones' second helper of the game before Wilson finalized the Bears scoring for the evening with the assist going to Abbott on the play.
In total, the Bears put 19 of their 39 shots for the game on goal. Nagle finished the game with nine shots total while Jones took seven shots in the contest. Twelve different players would record a shot in the contest. In goal, Emily Kuehn was credited with her fifth shutout of the season despite being untested in goal.
The Bears will get back into Mid-South Conference play next Tuesday when No. 18 Cumberland University comes to Portsmouth for a 2 p.m. match.
Notes: Women's soccer has now won seven straight games for the first time in school history (the previous record was five straight victories) … The Bears have also won five straight road games (the previous record was four straight wins) … Allison Nagle's hat trick was the second of her SSU career (both this season) … Nagle has scored in three straight games and has a point in all but one game this season … Nagle currently leads the team with nine goals this season … Nagle now ranks fourth all-time in program history with 22 career goals as she passed Kat Westendorf (2007-08, 10-11) and Kelly Hatas (2003-06) who each had 21 goals in their career … Schuyler Jones has now scored in each of the last six games and recorded four points in a game for the third time this season … Jessica Fair has also scored in six different games this season … Fair and Jones are tied for second on the team with eight goals after both scored nine in their freshmen campaigns … Teresa Welch's goal was the first of her season and the seventh of her SSU career … Tasha Wilson's goal was the second of her season and career ... Wilson's three points in the game was a new career high … Bethany Ward's assist was the second of her season and fifth of her career … Elizabeth Abbott's assist was the third of her season and set a new career high with seven points this season … Emily Kuehn's shutout was her fifth of the season … Kuehn needs one more shutout to tie the single-season school record set by Sam Rolsen in 2006 … Kuehn's victory was the 20th of her career, tying her with Jessica Votow (2001-04) for the second-most in school history.
