Allie Chapman Earns Second Straight MSC Pitcher of the Week Honor

MSC Release

PORTSMOUTH – For the second consecutive week, Allie Chapman has been named the Mid-South Conference Pitcher of the Week. The honor is the second of Chapman's season and third of her career. She becomes the second pitcher in the conference to be honored twice with MSC Pitcher of the Week honors this season, joining Campbellsville's Kelsi Pardue.

For the week, Chapman picked up four victories in the circle with complete game efforts in all four games. She finished with a 1.45 ERA over 29 total innings of work. She allowed just 21 hits and six earned runs during that time.

Opening up the week against Montreat, Chapman was simply dominant. In her first start against Montreat, she fired a three-hit shutout over her seven innings of work. She would also strike out nine while walking just one batter. Chapman would back that effort up the next day with a no-hitter in the Bears' 13-1 victory in five innings. That lone run came on a leadoff walk that would eventually score on an error. After the unearned run, she retired 14 of the final 15 hitters that she faced.

Her longest outing of the week came against Lindsey Wilson in which she went 10 innings. The No. 12 Blue Raiders scored five runs in that game but just two were charged to Chapman. She allowed 11 hits but struck out eight. Her efforts helped lead the Bears to a 6-5 walk-off victory in the 10 inning game.

Chapman racked up her second conference victory of the week with another complete game effort against UVA-Wise. The Bears would end up winning that game 6-5 in walk-off finish with a two-run home run in the bottom of the seventh by Kirsti Yates.

For the season, Chapman is 8-4 on the season with a 2.25 ERA. She has made 12 starts this season and finished with a complete game in 10 of those games. This includes three shutouts. Overall, she has allowed just 69 hits and 16 walks in 81 innings of work. Chapman has struck out 59 batters while opponents are hitting just .225 off of her. In Mid-South games, she has been even more impressive with a 5-1 mark in the circle and a 1.45 ERA. She has thrown a complete game in five of her six MSC starts with two shutouts.

Chapman and the rest of her teammates will be back in action this afternoon against Pikeville. Today's doubleheader at Boone Coleman Field will start at 3 p.m. These two teams previously met at Pikeville earlier this season with the Bears taking both ends of that doubleheader. This week's schedule also includes a trip to UVA-Wise on Wednesday, hosting Rio Grande Thursday, and trips to St. Catharine and No. 25 Campbellsville on Saturday and Sunday.
