GEORGETOWN, Ky. – The Shawnee State baseball team could say they let one slip away in their series-opener against the Tigers of Georgetown College. The Bears (24-20, 6-10) clawed themselves back from a two-run deficit before the Tigers (23-13, 10-6) scored the winning run on a passed ball in the bottom of the ninth

Shawnee State got a strong pitching performance from Cody Strayer. Strayer (2-4) tossed 8.1 innings allowing four runs –none which were earned— on only five hits while striking out four batters in the losing effort.

The Bears would jump on the Tigers first with a quick run in the top of the first inning. Colin Keim (2-for-4) hit a one-out RBI single to left to score Tyler Bice (2-for-5) – who started the inning with a single up the middle.

Meanwhile, Strayer continued to find his rhythm on the mound through the first five innings. He didn't allow a hit until the fourth inning and only walked one batter through the first five innings. However, Georgetown broke through in the sixth inning.

With runners on first and second a Dustin Bickmeyer fielded a bunt cleanly, however, the throw went past Jake Lankheit as the Tigers got their first run in the game. The play started a three-run rally for Georgetown handing them a 3-1 lead after six.

After both teams went scoreless in the seventh inning it was the Bears turn to rally. Trailing by two, Shawnee State loaded the bases after Bice singled, Joe Henderson walked, and Cody Spires singled to right field. With one-out Bice and Henderson both scored on a wild throw to tie the game at 3-all.

The Bears will be right back in action tomorrow, April 6 as they will take on Georgetown in a series finale doubleheader which is slated to begin at 1:00 p.m.
