LEBANON, Tenn. – One of the winningest seasons for women's tennis in recent memory came to an end Tuesday afternoon at the hands of No. 16 Cumberland University in the Mid-South Conference quarterfinals. After finishing second during the regular season, the Bulldogs moved on to the conference semifinals this weekend which will be held in Lexington with the 9-0 victory.
For the Bears, they finish the season at 6-7 overall. The six victories were the most for the tennis team since it joined the Mid-South in the spring of 2011. They also won three conference matches which was more than they had won in both of the two previous seasons combined.
Up and down the lineup, the No. 16 Bulldogs showcased why they will be a force to be reckoned with at the Mid-South Conference Championships and beyond as they did not allow a game to the Bears at any of the spots in the lineup in either singles or doubles.
Today's match also was the end to a pair of four-year careers as both Ashley Fischer and Ashley O'Neill teamed up one last time in the doubles competition while playing their usual spots in singles at No. 2 and No. 3.
