Tennis Concludes MSC Regular Season Play

PORTSMOUTH – Tennis wrapped up its Mid-South Conference schedule with a pair of tough matches against No. 19 Campbellsville and No. 5 Lindsey Wilson. The Bears won two matches against Campbellsville to start the day before falling 9-0 in their second match against Lindsey Wilson.

Aubrey Johnson and Abbi Morrow were the beneficiaries of a walkover victory at No. 3 doubles during the opening match while Megan Dunham was also victorious in walkover fashion against the Tigers. At No. 1 and No. 2 doubles, the Bears were downed 8-0. Kyra Keeton earned SSU's lone game of the contested singles matches at No. 1 singles while Nos. 2-5 all fell 6-0, 6-0.

During the second match, the fifth-ranked Blue Raiders claimed the outright Mid-South Conference title with their victory. At every doubles position, Lindsey Wilson was the winner by an 8-0 final. Kayla Wiley earned the Bears' lone point of the singles competition in this match with a game at No. 5. At the other five singles spots, the Bears were subdued 9-0.

Tennis finished the regular season with a 3-6 mark in the Mid-South Conference. These three wins came after just one conference victory during each of the first two seasons in the MSC. That record was good enough to earn a berth into the Mid-South Conference Tournament as the Bears finished in seventh place. They will begin the Mid-South Conference Tournament on Tuesday against Cumberland University. The Bulldogs finished second in the MSC regular season. That Tuesday match is set to start at 3:30 in the eastern time zone, but will be a 2:30 central time zone start which is where Cumberland is located.

Before the Mid-South Conference Tournament gets underway, the Bears will host their final home matches of the season on Monday in rescheduled action. SSU will welcome Central State to Portsmouth for two matches on Monday beginning at 4 p.m. between the teams two squads. This will also serve as Senior Day for the team.
