Hat Tricks Abound as Women's Soccer Bests Brescia, 7-2

OWENSBORO, Ky. - For just the third time in program history, women's soccer had two different players record a hat trick in a single game as the Bears (7-3-1) got back in the win column with a 7-2 victory over Brescia on the road Monday evening. Allison Nagle and Schuyler Jones each recorded hat tricks in the victory while Bethany Ward added another goal to round out the Bears scoring.

Despite the convincing victory by the time the final whistle sounded, it was Brescia that would hold a lead on two separate occasions during a fast and furious start to the game. Just 3:20 into the contest, Brescia tallied on the first shot of the game to go up 1-0. However, Nagle would answer right back just 8:09 into the game with her first goal of the day off an assist from Elizabeth Abbott and Jones.

Brescia would then tally just under two minutes after Nagle's goal to go up 2-1 just 10:04 into the game. This time Jones would answer back with a goal in the 19th minute off of Abbott's second assist of the game. Jones would then give the Bears the lead in the 22nd minute off an assist from Nagle as SSU led 3-2 just 21:30 into the opening half.

The two sides would settle the offensive pace of the game after SSU took the lead. The Bears would tally just once more as Nagle recorded her second goal of the opening half off an assist from Becky Legge to make it 4-2 at the break.

Ward would get on the score sheet for the Bears just under four minutes into the second half. Her goal came off the assist from Tasha Wilson to give the Bears a 5-2 lead.

Nagle and Jones would then both cap their hat trick days within less than a minute span during the 62nd and 63rd minutes. Nagle got her third tally of the night off the double assist of Wilson and Jones. After assisting on Nagle's hat trick, Jones finished her third goal of the night just 51 seconds later off of Abbott's third assist of the game. The final 27-plus minutes would then be scoreless as the Bears came away with the 7-2 victory.

As a team, the Bears held a 24-7 advantage in shots and a 17-4 advantage in shots on goal. Nagle recorded her hat trick on seven shots while Jones scored on three of her four shots for the game. Emily Kuehn recorded a pair of saves on the evening to pick up the save in goal.

Women's soccer will now look to carry tonight's offensive momentum into the weekend when the meet up with rival Rio Grande in a key battle for MSC postseason seeding. That game will take place at Rio this Saturday at 5 p.m.
