Falcons too much for Bears

The Shawnee State Bears (16-16) fell 6-3 to NCAA Division I Bowling Green Falcons on Wednesday afternoon. The Bears trailed 6-0 after the second and cut the lead in half scoring two runs in the fourth and one in the fifth but that was as close as Shawnee could get.

The Falcons took advantage of a walk and a pair of hit batters in the first to jump out to a 4-0 lead. Bowling Green then scored two more runs in the second on three hits and two Shawnee errors.

Shawnee State got on the board in the fourth. Senior Danny Gesick (Pickerington, OH) reached on a Falcon error and junior Colin Keim (Clinton, OH) doubled. Gesick and Keim scored on RBI's by junior Adam Wamsley (Wheelersburg, OH) and senior Cody Morrison (Spring, TX).

In the fifth, Gesick hit a double to score freshman Cody Spires (Lancaster, OH) and cut the Falcons lead in half, 6-3.

Shawnee State held the Falcons hitless the remainder of the game, but Shawnee State couldn't capitalize on a pair of hit in the eighth to fall 6-3.

Senior Carter Bledsoe (Tulsa, OK) was tagged with the loss as he allowed four runs in the first. Freshman Xander Uxley (Pickerington) cam in and worked 4.2 innings allwoign two runs (both unearned) on seven hits with a walk and a strikeout. Junior Jordan Williams (Uniontown, OH) worked 2.1 innings and did not allow a hit with one walk. Spires pitched the final inning and did not allow a hit.

Trevor Blayton got the win for the Falcons as he pitched 2.0 innings allowing one hit, two walks while striking out three.

Gesick finished 2-for-4 at the plate with a double.

Shawnee State resumes conference play as they travel to Georgetown College on Thursday, March 22. Game time is set to begin at 2:00 p.m.
