Shawnee shut out by No. 3 Lee

The Shawnee State Baseball Team (2-3) was shut out in a double-header to host NAIA 3rd-ranked Lee University on Friday afternoon.
The Bears fell in the opener 5-0. Shawnee struggled at the plate accumulating only two hits in the game. After two scoreless innings, Lee score a run in the third, fourth and fifth to take a 3-0 lead. The Flames scored two more runs in sixth for the final score.
Senior Austin Dunfee (Pomeroy,OH) went the distance on the mound allowing four earned runs, two walks while striking out five in the loss.
For the Flames, Kris Hall got the win as he pitched six innings allowing one walk while striking out 12. Joe Fabre closed the game allowing one walk and two strikeouts for Lee.
In the second game, Shawnee State lost 2-0. The Bears only had two hits in the game compared to nine for the Flames. Lee accumulated runs in third and sixth for the win. Senior Alex Taku (Santa Cruz, CA) got the loss on the mound as he pitched 4.1 allowing one earned one, one walk and striking out one. Junior Jordan Williams (Uniontown, OH) pitched 1.2 innings for the Bears and allowed one run (unearned) while striking out one batter.
Patrick Merkling got the win for Lee. He pitched 5.0 innings allowing four walk against eight strikeouts. Vince Spikler got the save striking out one batter in the final inning.
Shawnee State travels to Union (KY) on Friday and Saturday to play Iowa Wesleyan College.
