Emily Kuehn Named MSC Defensive Player of the Week

MSC Release

PORTSMOUTH – Sophomore goalie Emily Kuehn has been named MSC Defensive Player of the Week after shutting out Pikeville for 77-plus minutes during the women's soccer's team first MSC win over Pikeville. Kuehn's five saves in goal shut down Pikeville's offense as the Bears' offense broke out offensively with a season-high six goals. The honor is the first of Kuehn's career and the first for the women's soccer this season.

Kuehn has played in seven games this season, making five starts during her 538-plus minutes in goal. She ranks seventh in the Mid-South in both goals against average (2.17) and total saves (41). She has a save percentage of 0.759 this season. This past Saturday, she anchored a defensive effort that allowed just eight shots total over the 90 minutes.

Combining with classmate Shelbi Halverson, who played the remaining time in the win over Pikeville, the two sophomores have posted their only two combined shutouts during their most recent two victories. Kuehn has been the goalie of record in two of the Bears' four victories. She has picked up 10 victories in goal during her SSU career.

The Bears are currently tied for sixth in the MSC standings but will have the chance to move up in the standings this week with a pair of conference games. They will host Rio Grande this afternoon at 2 p.m. and travel to Campbellsville this Saturday at 6 p.m. They will also host Purdue-Calumet in non-conference action this Sunday at 4 p.m.
