The Shawnee State Men's Basketball Team fell 78-65 on the road to the Patriots of the University of the Cumberlands on Saturday afternoon. Shawnee State goes to 7-10 on the season and 2-5 in the Mid-South Conference. The Patriots improve to 10-6 overall and 3-3 in conference play.

The University of the Cumberlands out shot the Bears 42 percent to 35 percent in the game. The Bears trailed 35-27 at the break and the Patriots built upon their lead in the second handing the Bears their fifth consecutive road loss.

Junior Tyler Boyles (Raceland, KY) led the Bears with 21 points, while Mark Bryant (Milford, OH) added 13 points. Sophomore Andrew Devlin (Columbus, OH) was the only other Bear in double-figures as he scored 10 points and pulled down six rebounds.

Steve Goins came off the bench to lead the Patriots with 18 points to go along with nine rebounds. Matt Daniel had 16 point, while Aaron Watts and Benito Santiago Jr tallied 11 and 10 points, respectively.

Shawnee State made only 17 field goals in the game, for 35 percent compared to the Patriots 22 shots for 43 percent. The Bears struggled making only four 3-pointers in the contest, while the University of the Cumberlands hit seve for 37 percent. At the line, Shawnee State went 27-for-34 for 94 percent. The University of the Cumberlands converted 27-of-32 for 84 percent.

Shawnee State returns home on Thursday, January 19 to host West Virginia Tech in a non-conference game. Tip-off is set for 8:00 p.m. On Saturday the Bears host rival Rio Grande in a "Pink Out". Game time is set for 4:00 p.m.
