Bears defense secures 2-1 victory over Otterbein

The Shawnee State Men's Team broke their three-game losing streak as they defeated Otterbein University 2-1 in non-conference action on Tuesday afternoon. The Bears improve to 3-4 on the season, while the Cardinals fall to 1-4-2.

Shawnee State captured a 2-0 lead at halftime and the Bears' defense secured the win allowing only one Cardinal goal in the second half. The Bears' got on the board in the 21 minute, as a Cardinal player deflected the ball into their own net. A minute later freshman Joseph Webster found the back of the net off of a corner kick by junior Chad Johnston.

Otterbein's Matthew Aardema found Jared Pulliam to put the Cardinals on the board in the 57th minute. Shawnee State's defense held the Cardinals in check and pulled out the 2-1 victory.

SSU's senior Kevin Fischer recorded six saves in the win.

The Bears travel to Campbellsville University on Saturday, September 25 for a conference doubleheader. The men's game begins at 5:00 p.m. with the women's game to follow at 7:00 p.m.
