The Shawnee State Women's Team suffered their first loss of the season as they fell to NCAA Division II Alderson-Broaddus College. The Bears fall to 5-1 on the season. The Battlers win their fourth straight to improve to 4-3.
The game was scoreless until ABC's Olivia Augustine found the back of the net with less than five minutes remaining in the first half to give the Battlers the 1-0 advantage.
Shawnee State kept the Battlers in check for the first 60 minutes of the game, but the veteran Alderson-Broaddus club took advantage of the uninspired Bears' squad, handing them their first loss. Augustine scored her second goal of the game in the 66th minute to extend the lead to 2-0. Nicole Lehman put the final dagger in the Bears' as she tallied two goals in the final 15 minutes. She scored on an assist by Kasie Shoemaker in the 76th minute then tallied the final goal on a penalty kick in the 87th minute.
The Bears were outshot 9-3 on shots on goal. SSU's Emily Kuehn recorded four saves in the contest. ABC's Kate Laird got the shutout, tallying three saves in the win.
Shawnee State travels to Campbellsville on Saturday, September 24th to open Mid-South Conference action. The doubleheader begins with the men's game at 5:00 p.m. and the women's game to follow at 7:00 p.m. in Campbellsville, Kentucky.
