The Shawnee State Men's Soccer Team shutout Berea College 7-0 on Saturday afternoon. Shawnee State improves to 2-1 on the season, while the Mountaineers fall to 0-4.
The game went scoreless most of the first half, until the Bears' scored back-to-back goals in the 32nd and 34th minute. Sophomore Yves Nzwanga got the Bears on the board on an assist by Kevin Copenhaver. Two minutes later senior Cody Bond scored off of a corner kick by Dylan Stevens to give Shawnee State the 2-0 lead at the break.
In the 53rd minute, senior Lenier Crawford scored on an assist by junior Chad Johnston. Sophomore Jacob Hackworth added to the Bears' lead as he scored unassisted in 61st minute. Sophomore Braden Ruth found freshman Kevin Copenhaver on a cross in the 72nd minute. Freshman Dylan Stevens rounded out the Bears scoring on a free kick in the 82nd minute.
Senior Kevin Fischer got the win as he started in goal and recorded four saves. Freshman Zachary Miller tallied two saves in the contest.
Shawnee State hosts St. Francis on Sunday, September 11. Game time is set for 2:00 p.m.
